Happy Canada Day, everyone. The Globe and Mail is reporting that the Order of Canada is about to be bestowed on a mass murderer.
The divisive debate about abortion rights in Canada is poised to erupt once again as Henry Morgentaler, the country's best-known abortion-rights crusader, is expected to be named to the Order of Canada.
The official announcement was supposed to have been made yesterday, but has been delayed for unknown reasons. (One hopes the delay is because the awards committee is coming to its senses.)
If the award goes ahead, millions of Canadians will have less reason to love our country.
Douglas Farrow has it exactly right: “Henry Morgentaler’s Canada is not my Canada”.
How will the people of Canada respond, those who cannot in good conscience bear the burden of being told that abortion is a “Canadian value”?
I can tell you that I myself am pondering this last question very seriously. Henry Morgentaler’s Canada is not my Canada. I’m with the late Louis-Philippe de Grandpré, sometime justice of the Supreme Court of Canada: “Abortion at any stage of pregnancy is murder, and any attack against the fetus is a crime. To kill a fetus is murder.”
Giving the OC to an abortionist implies that the powers that be in this country regard abortion as something to be celebrated. But God says, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil”.
