Snow falls in June

I woke up this morning to see heavy wet snow falling.  This was the scene from our back deck about 8:00 am.  (You can see the falling snow better if you click on the photo for an enlargement.)

Click for larger viewThe temperature was +3C so, although a lot of wet white stuff was coming down, I figured it would all have melted by the time we returned from church.  I was wrong.  Here's the same scene at 12:30 pm.

This photo was taken from the street in front of our house about the same time.

The June snowfall was unexpected, but not unprecedented.  Whitehorse has had measurable snowfall in every month of the year except July.  (Official Whitehorse weather records date back only to 1942.)

It’s now 2:30 pm, the snow has stopped falling, the temperature has risen to +6C, and the sun is trying to come out from behind the clouds.  So, I figure the snow will be gone before suppertime. . . .
