Hindu extremists are condemning and threatening Christians again.  This time, it’s because Christians gave humanitarian aid and comfort to Dalits (untouchables) whose children were sexually abused and killed by a local businessman.

A hundred members of the extremist Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha group demonstrated yesterday in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, against “attempts by Christians to convert” families from the village of Nithari, infamously known for its “house of horrors”.

This particular story began early this year when the remains of about 40 women and children were found in the garden and sewers of a house owned by a businessman in Nithari. The victims whose disappearance had been reported some time ago were likely sexually abused before being killed.

The families of the victims had filed missing persons’ reports with the authorities.  A team sent from the All India Christian Council (AICC) to visit the families soon discovered that the police had ignored reports from poor Dalit families but had acted on reports from rich upper-caste families.

Hindu extremists who demonstrated yesterday in Noida have demanded the government compensate victims’ families to prevent “Christian missionaries from converting them through money pledges and moral comfort”.

Converting people through “moral comfort”!  How despicable!  That, apparently, is something those Hindu extremists would never consider offering.

AICC Secretary General John Dayal points out that the charge is ridiculous because the police were present whenever Christians visited a victim’s family.  There was no opportunity to evangelise anyone.

A package sent by American pro-family Christian organisation Vision Forum Ministries to Canadian supporters was detained at the border by Canada Border Services Agency.  The package contained two dolls as a gift to the supporters along with a thank-you letter.  Why would the agency guarding our borders prevent dolls from entering Canadian territory?

Glenn Penner of Voice of the Martyrs Canada has the details.

Is it because they wanted to charge duty on the dolls or that was something there something illegal about the order? Not at all. The problem had to do with the letter. According to a form sent to the couple from the Canadian Border Services Agency, the goods were detained because the agency determined that the letter from the Vision Forum director may constitute "hate propaganda."

The letter encourages Christians to defend the family against attempts to undermine its importance, such as acceptance of same-sex “marriages”.  The letter specifically emphasised "vigorous opposition to the homosexual agenda."

That appears to be the reason the letter was classified as “hate propaganda”, even though it does not attack any individual or group; it does not even name any one in particular.  Glenn Penner is of the opinion that it does not qualify as hate propaganda at all under present legislation.

He also thinks that labeling Christian information as hate propaganda will become more common in the days ahead.  The ministry of VOMC, and many similar projects, is dedicated to spreading news about Christians suffering persecution at the hands of Muslims, Hindus, homosexual activists, and other hostile groups.  It may not be very long before someone calls that hate speech.

Yesterday, Glenn provided an update on his recuperation from his recent stem-cell transplant.  He is back at home now, his strength is gradually returning, and his appetite is improving.  He still needs prayer that the procedure will succeed in eliminating the cancer from his body.
