Magic Statistics

Roadside buffalo

Some photos from our recent jaunt.

On the first day of our drive south, we came upon the largest herd of buffalo I’ve ever see, just north of Liard River, BC (map here).  There must have been 25 of them standing or lying in the grass by the side of the Alaska Highway.  Of course, I had to stop and take some pictures.  (Click on photos for larger views.)

The first shot was taken from beside our car looking toward the buffalo across the highway.

Then, I crossed the road to get some closer views.  They were spread out along the highway, so I couldn’t get them all in one photo. (Notice what passes for a highway in northern BC.)

The third photo posted here looks toward the animals closest to me.  The bull facing me was calmly chewing some grass when I got out of the car, but as soon as I walked over, he stopped eating, lifted his head, and just kinda stared in my general direction.  The StatWife and StatDaughter, still in the car, noticed this and started to get worried that the beast would get a notion to chase me off.  So, as this photo was taken, they yelled at me to get back in the car so we could mosey on down the road.

Home again

The annual family summer vacation that I mentioned here is over; we arrived home safely yesterday evening.  Thanks to all for prayed for us.

Items posted during the last few days were written from various locations in Alberta and northern BC.

Something weird is happening with image uploads, and my tech guy is too swamped at his real job to work on it now.  Any WordPress experts out there who know why loading a jpg photo generates an error, while uploading the same photo as a much larger gif image works fine, please contact me.

We drove from Whitehorse to Calgary in three days as planned.  After visiting family there for a few days, we flew to New York City for five days.  (I still can't believe I agreed to do that.)  We had a fascinating and exhausting time.  We saw a Broadway play and visited many places in Manhattan, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Ground Zero.  We ate some great meals at fine restaurants.  And we went into some stores—lots of stores.  Future blog posts will have more to say about our trip.

On the way back, we stopped in Edmonton for three days where we had dinner with a fellow Anglican blogger.  More about that later, too.
