Magic Statistics

EpiscoPaganism Watch

A new Eucharist liturgy has been posted at the Women’s Ministries page at the website of the Episcopal Church USA.  It’s entitled “Eucharist Using Female Nouns and Pronouns”, but it changes a heck of a lot more than mere nouns and pronouns.

You may think you know what’s coming next, but it’s worse—much worse.  Here are the opening sentences:

Women's Ministries, ECUSACelebrant: Blessed be the Lady who births, redeems and sanctifies us.

People: And blessed be all of her creation forever.  Amen

Celebrant: Nurturing Mother, our hearts are open to you.  You know our yearnings and our deepest fears.  Purify our hearts with your burning love, that we may learn to love you more and more.  Amen.

The whole thing can be downloaded here as a Word document.  The fire icon at the right was found in the sidebar of the Women’s Ministries page.

Nazanin’s final appeal to be heard this week

The case of Nazanin Mahabad Fatehi, the Iranian teenage girl sentenced to death for defending herself and her niece against would-be rapists, will be reviewed by the Iranian Supreme Court this week.  When she and her niece were ambushed and assaulted by three men, Nazanin stabbed one of them, who later died.  If the sentence is upheld, she will probably be executed by hanging shortly thereafter.

A website has been set up to spread the word about her plight.  Iranian-born Canadian singer Nazanin Afshin-Jam is supporting her Iranian namesake by launching an online petition which has gathered over 136,000 signatures to date.

Iran, like other Muslim countries, is notorious for discriminating against women.  If Nazanin had let the men rape her, she could have been flogged for having extra-marital sex.

You can’t tell the Episcopalian bloggers without a scorecard

The New York Times provides a brief intro to the Episcopal blogosphere.  First on the list is the redoubtable Rev Dr Kendall Harmon.  Bravo, Kendall.

A Christian cosmetics company?

I report; you decide.

ABOUT US
Founded in 2004 by Stacey and Zachary Adams, Trinity Cosmetics is a divinely inspired bath and beauty collection designed to pamper and nourish body, soul, and spirit.

HEAVEN “SCENT”
Trinity’s luxurious products are formulated from the highest quality ingredients, essential oils, botanical extracts derived from exotic flowers, aromatic herbs, fragrant fruits, nutrient-rich leaves, and loamy roots. Trinity’s treasures awaken the senses, inspiring one’s inner beauty while enhancing the outer self. They are infused with soothing ingredients, and abundant in vitamins and minerals; the creamy sweetness of one product comforts the soul, while the sparkling tang of another refreshes and invigorates…purifying body and spirit.

PHILOSOPHY
Trinity’s products were created for women at every stage of life, out of an abiding belief that true beauty lies within. A deep connection to old-fashioned values, and a commitment to reciprocity in all things, is at the heart of Trinity’s business ethic.

There are presently three product lines for sale at the company’s website: “Revival treatments”, “Milk & honey”, and “Salt of the earth”.

Somehow I don’t think body wash is what Jesus had in mind when he said, “You are the salt of the earth”.
