Rev Archibald Pell takes early retirement

I was saddened to see this notice that Binks posted earlier today:

Maximum Glorious Leader Mikey Ingham smites another infidel: “Bishop Michael Ingham subsequently fired one priest for joining the ANiC, Ms Chang claimed, and the Panel “can provide no protection from punitive actions from the diocese”. FACTS FROM 401 — “(….)The Rev’d Archibald Pell, Christ Church, Hope, has submitted his resignation to Bishop Michael and taken early retirement, effective February 1st. The Rev’d Fred Tassinari, also retired, is providing temporary Sunday supply. Archie came to this Diocese from Ontario to serve as an Associate at St. John’s, Shaughnessy and served on Administration and Finance with the Diocese. Then Archie became Rector of Holy Trinity Cathedral, New Westminster. With an army background, he also served in military chaplaincy through Chilliwack for a period of time”

Rev Archie Pell was Associate Rector at St John's Shaughnessy Church, Vancouver, when the StatWife and I began worshipping there in 1984. He was also lead instructor in the series of confirmation classes I attended in 1986, which culminated in my being confirmed in the Anglican Church at the age of 36. (Better late than never.)

I remember Rev Pell as a clear and solid biblical preacher. I remember especially the times he presided at Holy Communion. He had a dramatic flair that made the liturgy very moving and powerful.

I can only imagine the people at Christ Church, Hope, will miss him very much. May our Lord be beside him and richly bless him and his family.

Why Ctrl-Alt-Delete anyway?

Why did Microsoft select the key combination Ctrl-Alt-Delete to start up Windoze? Watch this video for the story from the horse's mouth, so to speak. The "developer" tries to share the credit with Bill Gates, but Bill's having none of it. At the end, listen for the audience to applaud and groan at the same time. Classic!

The Second Sunday in Lent

The collect for today, the Second Sunday in Lent, from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer:

Almighty God, who seest that we have no power of ourselves to help ourselves; Keep us both outwardly in our bodies, and inwardly in our souls; that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assail and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Epistle: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8
The Gospel: St Matthew 15:21-28
