. . . when we've got the Young Liberals?
I don't mean to be too facetious about this. The problem the Young Liberals address is a real one, and I have sympathy with their aim. But another government regulation is the wrong way to solve it, I believe. That just disempowers and infantalises parents by saying to them, "You're not up to this job, so the government has to take it over".
A better solution is to encourage and enable parents to raise their children in a proper moral environment. Modesty used to be a positive virtue; today's culture, however, regards it a vice to be ridiculed and stamped out. Schools have played a big role in this. In my view, the Young Liberals should direct their energies to an intense and honest examination of how government policies have contributed to coarsening the moral environment in which our children are raised.
